Gareth Thompson is a Solution Architect and smart grid analytics expert with more than 20 years of experience in software engineering and system integration. Specializing in architecting, developing and delivering integrated solutions for electric, gas and water utilities, Gareth’s deep technology expertise in Smart Grid systems such as AMI and MDMS, is matched by his core strength in other utility IT systems like Geographical Information Systems (GIS). His background also includes supporting utilities in AMI field-testing to verify that the piloted AMI technologies support client requirements and service level agreements. Gareth was the driving force, designer, and project lead in developing and utilizing field testing metric tools to verify the most critical aspects of a potential deployment including functionality and performance tied to the major expected benefits; major cost drivers; and most difficult deployment scenarios (density, geography, and topography, or in situ problems). Gareth started his career as a GIS consultant for firms in England. Prior to joining Excergy in 2012, he served as a solution architect for Enspiria Solutions, which was acquired by Black & Veatch in 2010. Gareth holds a Bachelor of Science in Computing from the University of Northumbria (United Kingdom).
